Privacy Policy — Popup Dictionary

Popup Dictionary does not collect, store, or sell your personal information. There is no account, no sign-up, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind.

What leaves your browser

Only the text you deliberately select and look up. When you select text and click the lookup button, that selected text is sent to:

Google Translate	the selected text and your chosen target language	to return the translation
dictionaryapi.dev	the single English word you selected	to return definitions, phonetics and synonyms

Nothing is sent until you click. Simply selecting text sends nothing. Browsing activity, page contents, URLs, and pages you never look a word up on are never transmitted.

What stays on your device

Saved words — stored locally in your browser using chrome.storage.local. They are never uploaded to us or to anyone else, and they are deleted when you remove them or uninstall the extension.
Your target-language preference — stored the same way.

Permissions, and why each is needed

Access to the sites you visit — the extension has to read the text you select, and the selection can be on any website. It reads only your current selection, at the moment you ask for a lookup, and only in the tab you are using.
Storage — to keep your saved words and your language choice on your own device.

Children

The extension is a general-purpose reading tool and is not directed at children under 13. It collects no personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, in the same release as the code change it describes.
